Glow Blogs Housekeeping 4⤴

from @ news – Glow Blog Help

it is getting near to the 28 August 2025 date when unused blogs will be deleted from the system. If you have a blog that you have not used for a few years but still value please check it out.

Do you have a Glow Blog? Most likely the answer is yes! Glow Blogs is one of the most popular services in Glow with hundreds of new blogs created each month.

This is fantastic news and we want to make sure Glow keeps performing well to support your blogs. To help with this we’re carrying out a housekeeping exercise to remove older Glow Blogs that haven’t been used for a while.

On 1 May 2025 we archived older Glow Blogs that haven’t been used for a number of years.  Following this, commencing 28 August 2025, we will permanently delete these from the system to free up space and help improve overall performance.

This will affect; blogs with no users and no updates in the past 3 years, private blogs with users but no updates in the last 3 years and e-portfolios with or without users that have not been updated since 2017. Please note there are a small number of blogs and e-portfolios that have updates in the past three years that are also being archived as they have no users and do not use a home theme. If you have any questions regarding this then please speak to your local Glow Key Contact.

If your Glow Blog is archived but you want to continue using it you have the opportunity to restore it back to the live environment. Simply email your Glow Key Contact before 21 August 2025 and they will raise a service call on your behalf. Otherwise there’s nothing you need to do.

Thanks for your help and happy blogging.

We would love to hear from you⤴

Glow Blogs Tutorial: School Site⤴

from @ news – Glow Blog Help

This tutorial shows how to make a simple site with Glow Blogs. You can read through the tutorial or follow along on the videos.

Screenshot of a glow blog site

The tutorial will use the Twenty Fourteen theme & the block editor.

This will be a School Site with some of the features that you may like to add.

The tutorial will also help you to understand some of the basics of the Block editor. The site uses a classic theme, Twenty Fourteen, but it will be simple to follow along and use a different theme.

The tutorial takes a modular approach. Starting with setting up a functioning 2 pages site, News & About, up and running, then look at how the site can be expanded.

You need to logon to Glow when you visit the site. It contains example images and text created with the aid of ChatGPT and other AI tools. This text should not be taken seriously.

This is the one of several tutorials sites that are in the works. We would very much appreciate any feedback.

Kilsyth Academy – 70 Years 1954 to 2024⤴

from @ Glowing Posts

In 2024 Kilsyth Academy will celebrate 70 years from the official opening date.

As former and current pupils, we know you will have lots of memories and memorabilia spanning those years. Every memory, is a special memory. and should be celebrated. We are hoping to get as much history as we can, so we can add them into our celebrations. 70 years of Kilsyth Academy.

Lovely idea for a blog, showing memories of the school for the past 50 years.

Tuesday 25th June by Grace Clark⤴

from @ Glowing Posts

This is just one post from St Benedict’s High School Malawi Visit June 2024. The posts are written by the pupils and give a great view of what is going on. The blog seems to be text only which doesn’t detract from it al all.

Not long afterward we all went to our first class, mine’s was maths. This class filled me with joy as we were learning about stuff that we learn back at home which for a short moment brought us all together and made me forget about the drastic differnce of our lifestyles. My second class was computing science where they where learning about all the keys on the keyboard which initially confused me as I thought it was common sense but then after deeper thought I felt a wave of sadness when I realised that the things that seem so normal to us are like aliens to some people since they aren’t as privileged as us and get access to all types of technology.

After the mass we went on a 1 hour minivan ride on the bumpiest; rockiest; most unstable road I have ever been driven through which had mine and Aidans head hitting the roof every 3 minutes, but it’s probably fine and won’t have any noticeable side effects later in life. This road led to a lake which had many animal inhabitants such as monkeys, hippos and gazelle. I found the monkeys to be the best to see as they were the most active and were in larger numbers in comparison to the other animals.

Community readers – The most magnificent thing⤴

from @ Glowing Posts

This blog was active until 2022. It is a great example of a project blog:

This blog records the fantastic reading work which takes place at Kirkhill Primary School and Dechmont Infant School. We love to read and encourage all our families to read and share books for enjoyment as much as possible. While our access to books and ability to share books has been limited over the last eighteen months we have found new ways to celebrate reading.

Community readers – The most magnificent thing | Kirkhill Reads/ Dechmont reads

The blog consists of posts containing videos of different people from the school community reading different books. What a great idea.

Academy9’s Early Birds, inspiring the next David Attenborough?  ⤴

from @ Glowing Posts

As part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place at the end of January each year, the Academy9 team headed to primary schools in Newtonmore, Kingussie, Pitlochry and Aberfeldy to work with P3s on the topic of the great wildlife on their doorsteps.

In the Early Birds session, pupils learned about the range of birds in the Highlands through three interactive tasks. Ecologists, Joanna & Amy introduced the pupils to a variety of local birds, from Robins to Capercaillies.
