How good is our school? – Increasing creativity⤴

from @ Education Scotland's Learning Blog

what are creativity skills piece 1

How good is our school? provides a suite of quality indicators that support staff in all sectors to scrutinise their work and evaluate what is working well for learners and what could be better. It is a key aspect of the Scottish approach to school improvement and supports self-evaluation and reflection by practitioners at all levels.

The 4th edition was launched at this year’s Scottish Learning Festival and features a new quality indicator – Increasing creativity and employability - that will help schools across Scotland to embed progression in skills for learning, life and work in young people’s learning.. To support this, Education Scotland’s Creativity Team have developed two new infographics that can help you quickly understand What are creativity skills?, and identify the national and local support to Unlock your creativity. The infographics can be printed and shared freely.

Chris van der Kuyl on Mobile phones #SLF⤴

from @ John's World Wide Wall Display

A minute from: Raising the Digital Generation in Scotland – Chris van der Kuyl, Entrepreneur and Chairman of 4J Studios at the Scottish Learning Festival

…that is mental, that is absolutely mental that is like saying you cant carry a note book in school they are banned because you could write really seditious and crazy remarks in that notebook…  … to ban it is close to Luddism…

I’m catching up with this keynote from the Scottish Learning festival, here: SLF highlights – SLF 2015 1.

The whole talk is interesting and I’d recommend a watch/listen, but this jumped out.

The Audience seemed to suggest that a quarter to a half for schools banned mobile phones. I’d be interested in that statistic. Also what does ban mean? Does this suggest that half to three quarters allow mobiles for use in learning? That seems unlikely? Is it worse than Chris thinks?

The audio was ripped from Educations Scotland’s video, I am presuming that is ok as Fair UseInclusion for the purpose of news reporting“.

Expressive Arts at the Scottish Learning Festival 2015⤴

from @ Education Scotland's Learning Blog

The Scottish Learning Festival (SLF) is the key education event in Scotland welcoming thousands of education professionals.  SLF 2015 takes place on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th September in the SECC, Glasgow.

There are two Expressive Arts seminars to book this year:

‘The one-stop-shop for national partnerships and collaboration’

Wednesday 24th September at 4.30pm

Partnerships are about joined-up working and pooling resources to maximise impact. The Expressive Arts National Network Centre (EANNC) provides a one-stop-shop for practitioners and expressive arts networks at local and national level to engage in debate and share resources and opportunities.

‘Project Parkour’

Thursday 24th September at 9.30am.

Project Parkour took place in Saint Joseph’s Academy, Kilmarnock from January to March 2015. The project re-engaged 30 teenage boys in Parkour, a physical activity designed to benefit their mental and physical wellbeing, whilst increasing confidence and developing transferable skills. The project culminated in a sensational dance-related performance and documentary. A similar performance will follow the seminar at SLF – not to be missed!

You can also visit the Education Scotland stand for more information on the Expressive Arts National Working Groups, and how to get involved on Glow.

Flipping SLF!⤴

from @ Education Scotland's Learning Blog

flippedSLFAre you attending the Scottish Learning Festival (SLF) this year? Some of our presenters are using professional learning communities on Glow to ‘flip’ the learning at SLF.

Before the seminar, colleagues will be asked to join the community and leave a comment in the Newsfeed. This will get the professional dialogue going even before the seminar happens.

During the seminar, the key points and resources will be captured and made available on the online community. Colleagues may also be asked to make an individual or collaborative pledge to change their practice.

After the seminar, the dialogue can be continued, resources accessed and the community used to add value to the SLF experience.

Flipped seminar participants will be emailed personally but if you are coming to SLF or just interested in the SLF chat, make your way to the National Professional Learning Community and introduce yourself on the Newsfeed. Use the tag #flippingslf and you will be guided to get the most out of SLF and professional learning on Glow.
