International School Meals Day Competition⤴

Your school or class could take part during Scottish School Meals Week 31st October – 4th November 2016.

Field of Enquiry 2000m2⤴

Whitmuir Farm invite you to join their field-of-enquiry-picField of Enquiry team to explore the food system through the 2000m2 lens. That is, when you divide all the arable land on our planet by the people, we each have 2000m2.

Over 10 Saturdays, topic by topic, they will examine the current state of affairs, make sense of the pressures on our sytem and as enquirer, we will frame questions we should ask scientists, farmers and politicians to answer if we are to do things differently.

The dates for the FREE sessions are as follows;

Saturday 8th October, 22nd October, 5th November, 19th November, 3rd December, 14th January, 28th January, 11th February, 25th February, 11th March

There is no obligation to attend all sessions.

Grants of between £500 and £2,000 -Scotrail’s Community Grants⤴

Scotrail’s Community Grants Fund
The ScotRail Foundation provides grants of between £500 and £2,000 to grass roots community groups and charities in Scotland.

Your PTA or parents’ group might qualify  as long as there is a wider benefit.  Applicants should read the guidelines before making an online application.
Applications must fit within at least one of the following criteria to be eligible for funding:
• Promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing
• Targeting improvements in literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing in primary schools
• Improving the community’s environmental impact at a local level, encourage recycling or upcycling, or run environmental information or outreach programmes.

The Eatwell Guide

Food Standards Scotland has produced an information leaflet for teachers on the Eatwell Guide which includes an update about the NEW healthy eating guide, its key messaging, the changes made, whole school approaches as well as suggestions for classroom activities and links to further information and free classroom materials.

Eatwell Guide
It  has been sent to the Head Teacher/Head of Health & Wellbeing in all schools in Scotland to arrive on Wednesday 17th August or Thursday 18th August.  The leaflet will be accompanied by a A1 poster of the Eatwell Guide.
