Join P4 students from Law Primary for some very loud music, as they learn about the thunderous Taiko drums of Japan. Get your earplugs ready as we get a demonstration from the Tsuchigumo Taiko Group. This highly physical form of music is guaranteed to leave you energized and upbeat.
After the demonstration you will get a chance to talk to the players and students from Law Primary to put your own questions.

Join us on International School Meals Day 2017 (Thursday 9th March)at 1.30pm to make the connection between people across Scotland and share your food experiences.
This year the theme for International School Meals Day is Food, Culture and Heritage. We are encouraging children and young people (supported by their teachers or other adults) to share ‘stories’ about their culture, heritage and associated food – this could be family food traditions, food that is loved (or not!) in their country or festivals, ceremonies and celebrations that take place.
During the session we will investigate the provenance of school food in Scotland. Do you know where your school food comes from? Can you find out from your catering staff in time for the Glow TV session? In particular this session will look at where bread comes from, the different types of bread to be found here in Scotland and across the world, and the role of bread in our diet.
Overall, the aims of International School Meals Day are to:
* Raise awareness of the importance of the nutritional quality of school meal programs worldwide
* Emphasise the connection between healthy eating, education and better learning
* Connect children around the world to foster healthy eating habits and promote well-being in schools * Share success stories of school meal programs around the globe
* Highlight research activities in school meal programs around the globe
* Raise awareness of the hunger and poverty issues being addressed through school feeding programmes (programs)

What is Japanese calligraphy, what do you need to do it and how is it done? Discover the fun of writing in Japanese with Japanese teacher, Ms Emiko Abe plus staff from the Japanese Consulate and volunteers from Edinburgh University.
Ms Abe shows P3 students at Law Primary School that learners can practice Japanese calligraphy with basic materials found in every classroom.

The Better Energy School Awards, organised by the Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE) and sponsored by Total invite young people aged 5 to 11 to upload or send in projects showing the environmental learning that is taking place at their school. If you have been doing any work with the environment as its focus at Total E & P UK Ltd since the start of the Summer Term 2016, then it can be entered into the Better Energy School Awards.
With a prize of £5,000 for the UK Champions and a total of over 50 cash Awards available, there are great incentives for schools to get involved. Representatives from a school in Scotland will be selected as Scottish Champions and will join winners from schools in England and Wales at an Awards Ceremony in London, at which they will receive their Awards from celebrity guests (who at last year’s Awards included YPTE Presidents Dermot O’Leary, Naomi Wilkinson and Adrian Cale) and find out which of the Regional Champions will be crowned UK Champions for 2017.
Peter Littlewood, Director of the Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE) and representatives from Total were joined by pupils from Hanover Street’s primary 2/3 class who proudly presented their project idea for this year’s awards to a packed school assembly. Shortly afterwards Peter Littlewood, teacher Elizabeth Elrick and three pupils took part in a ‘live’ Glow TV broadcast telling other schools in Scotland about the competition and the reasons why Hanover have so enjoyed taking part.
Peter Littlewood, Director of YPTE said “It’s really exciting to be able to catch up with Hanover Street primary again and to have the opportunity through Glow TV. Enter the Better Energy School Awards 2017 to let as many schools in Scotland know about the Better Energy School Awards. I hope there will be lots of Scottish schools taking part, so that we can add massively to the 230,000 young people who have taken part since the Awards began in 2006. We know that schools in Scotland spend a lot of time working on environmental issues and to take part in BESA, all they have to do is tell us about it. We’re not trying to create lots of extra work for teachers, but rather to give them the opportunity to showcase the great work they and their students are doing already!”
It is great to see this level of interest and engagement particularly among the younger pupils. We hope this sparks the curiosity of other schools to find out more and go on to achieve similar success” added Sandra McLennan, Total’s Corporate Social Responsibility Leader.

Join nearly 130 primary schools in Fife on Tuesday 21st February at 10am for the final of the amazing BIG Book Brains Quiz, organised for the ninth year running by Fife Cultural Trust Libraries.
Reading Challenges and Quiz Heats have been taking place across Fife since last August and now we have 129 school teams who will come together to compete for the title of BIG Book Brains 2017. As well as winning some fabulous prizes, our champions have the chance to be ‘Librarians for a Day’ and select £500 worth of books for their school library sponsored by Scotia and Chameleon Books in Kilsyth.
You are all invited to tune in and rise to the challenge as you pit your book knowledge against the teams who have won through to the final in Rothes Halls, Glenrothes. Compered by Jonathan Meres, hilarious author of The World of Norm books, all schools joining us on Glow will have the chance to send a shout out to wish our teams good luck and the chance to win some great spot prizes. Join Police Scotland on ‘Safer Internet Day’, Tuesday 7th February at 10.45am to find out more about Cyber Safety. They will be providing information and tips on how to stay safe on line and what to look out for.
They will use information from their Choices For Life (CFL) website and the UK Safer Internet Centre which can be accessed both at school and at home. During the session you can ask them any cyber safety questions that are concerning you or you are interested in finding out more about.

Have you ever wanted to create cartoons like the professionals? This is your chance!
On Thursday 2nd February at 10.45am meet Jim Glen, who has spent many years bringing some much loved characters to life in the pages of the Beano. Have your clipboards ready so that you can draw along as Jim shows you how to create cartoons.
He’ll also offer top tips on making your stories and characters leap off the page and will answer any questions you have to help you become a top class cartoonist. The session will be suitable for P4-P7 pupils and will cover aspects of the Expressive Arts and Literacy and English curriculum.
