SQA webinar – Advanced Higher Modern Languages Course Assessment, including Gaelic (Learners)⤴

This webinar will run from 17:00 – 18:00 and will be delivered by Maureen Andrew and Lorna McMurray, Subject Implementation Managers for Modern Languages. It will focus on the Advanced Higher course assessment (Portfolio, Performance: Talking and both Question Papers). It will cover the key aspects and requirements for assessment and will consider the input and advice from Advanced Higher Principal Assessors detailed in Course Reports. Advice will also be given regarding accessing materials for Understanding Standards and CLPL  purposes.

The webinar will reiterate some aspects already covered at the December 2015 Understanding Standards event, so will be useful to any practitioners who were unable to attend.

Ski lessons for those in GME and GLE⤴

The Gaelic organisation, Comunn na Gàidhlig (CNAG) aims to give children and young people opportunities to use and apply their Gaelic skills in situations beyond school. CNAG are currently offering ski lessons through the medium of Gaelic at Nevis Range, Glenshee, The Lecht, Glen Coe and Cairn Gorm. Tha Stòrlann, ann an com-pàirteachas ri Bòrd na Gàidhlig agus Comhairle Lannraig a Tuath, air 18 Sgeulachdan Traidiseanta agus Albannach beothaichte do chlann a chur a-mach. Tha iad uile rim faotainn air-loidhne agus air DVD.

Traditional Tales: In partnership with Bòrd na Gàidhlig and North Lanarkshire Council, Stòrlann have produced 18 animated Traditional and Scottish Tales for children, all of which are available online and on DVD.

20 new topic videos were recently uploaded and launched at the Royal National Mod in Stornoway.

 CISTE ULAIDH na h-ALBA – GEAMA BÙIRD

’S e geama dualchais a th’ ann le ceistean air fearann agus nàdar, eachdraidh, cultar agus Alba an latha an-diugh – tha na ceistean agus na h-ainmean-àite gu lèir sa Ghàidhlig. ’S e an t-amas na litrichean aig CISTE a chruinneachadh bho air feadh map de Alba a tha air a tharraing air a’ bhòrd-cluiche.

Ciste Ulaidh na h-Alba is a heritage game with questions about land and nature, history, culture and contemporary Scotland — with all the questions and place names in Gaelic.  Ciste is Gaelic for ‘chest’ and the aim is to collect the letters C I S T E from their locations around the map of Scotland, which is pictured on the board.

This interdisciplinary resource has been produced to support the teaching of this subject in P4 – 7 in the primary school. It contains useful plans and resources in connection with the following – Planning, Home, Evacuation of Children, Anne Frank, The Blitz, Prisoners of War, Women’s Work and Remembrance Day.

Scholar/Stòrlann:Science Level 3

Storlann, in partnership with the Scholar programme in Heriot-Watt University, has developed 10 Science units suitable for third level Curriculum for Excellence. The units cover topics recommended for this level within the Curriculum for Excellence. They are designed to allow learners to navigate through the materials at a pace that suits them, undertaking interactive exercises and virtual experiments in the process. A formal assessment is included at the end of each unit. A terminology glossary is  provided.
