The Scottish College for Educational Leadership (SCEL) is undertaking a survey of the profession to help better understand which forms of professional learning are most effective, what aspects of professional learning the profession aspire to participate in, and any barriers there may be when undertaking professional learning.

The survey should take around fifteen minutes to complete and as a thank you, respondents will be entered into a draw to win a book voucher worth £100 for their school.  The closing date for responses is the 6th March 2017.

Flipped professional learning on Glow⤴

from @ Education Scotland's Learning Blog

In these times, it’s vital to make the most out of the opportunities offered by face-to-face professional learning events. That’s why some event organisers are now  ‘flipping’ some of the learning .

A flipped learning space (eg a Yammer community on Glow) lets attendees engage online before the event; look at pre-event materials, introduce themselves and explain their expectations.

During the event, the conversation can continue with others not at the event, presenters can easily access their materials and you can post suggestions made or resources mentioned.

After the event, the impact can be tracked using a pledges tag and the whole thing can be revisited as an anytime professional learning opportunity as you may have filmed the key moments or presenters.

If you need to reset your Glow details, then see How do I get a Glow login?

If you need help with ‘flipped learning’ we will publish a Handy guide soon. In the meantime, these colleagues  shown below on Yammer will be able to help.

As the title suggests, the first SELMAS Brainstrust of the session (and 3rd in total) focuses on the young people in danger of being left behind by the education system.  We will hear from colleagues who have made sure that the young people in their care don’t fall into this category.

Please find more information about this free professional learning event on the SELMAS website – https://welcometoselmas.wordpress.com/2016/10/18/brains-trust-3-the-outsiders/  – where you will also find the link to enrol.

The UN is holding a Day of Discussion around children’s rights and the environment. Children from various countries – including Scotland – will be present at the day, and a short video has been produced that highlights some of the issues they will raise.

Enjoy and share with your learners and  professional learning networks!

Early Learning and Childcare at SLF⤴

from @ Education Scotland's Learning Blog

flippedSLFAre you attending the ELC Round Table at Scottish Learning Festival (SLF) this year? We will be using a secure community on Glow to ‘flip’ the learning.

Before the event, colleagues will be asked to join our Yammer group. This will get the professional dialogue going even before the seminar happens.

During the Round Table, the key points and resources will be captured and made available on the online community. Colleagues will also be asked to make an individual or collaborative pledge to change their practice.

After the seminar, the dialogue can be continued, resources accessed and the community used to add value to the SLF experience.

I am already one of the 11,000+ Glow Yammer users. What do I do?

  • Follow this link to the Yammer community
  • Request to join the community. One of our community admins will let you in as soon as possible
  • Introduce yourself with the tag #elcroundtable
