As a Maintenance Apprentice you are responsible for ensuring that you work to the expected standards, to implement all day to day relevant and assigned tasks and responsibilities adequate to Health & Safety, Check points and BSA levels required. Learning and developing within the role you will assist in the provision of a thorough maintenance support service to the hotel, ensuring repairs are carried out on a timely basis, to assist in the delivery of the highest levels of guest service and compliance of all health and safety legislation.
The Apprentice will also attend a one day release course at Edinburgh Granton College in NC Building Services, this is a 2 year entry level qualification leading to an NC award in Building Services Engineering. The course covers the full range of subjects at technical level required for a career in the design, installation and maintenance of building services projects including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, drainage, lighting, power, fire protection, oil, gas, solar energy and more for domestic, commercial and inductrial clients. You will learn the science behind the topics and the sizing and selection of distribution systems, pumps, fans and all associated technical equipment.
Your contracted hours of paid employment include the college release day, however you are responsible for any travel costs associated with travelling to the college campus. All applicants are required to be between 16-19 years of age for this position, this is a full time role 5 days out of 7 and an apprentice rate of pay will be in place for this role. Basic entry reqirements are a minimum three passes at SCQF level 5, preferably with Science, Maths or Design content.

• 3 Standard Grades with Maths and Physics at Level 3 or above or equivalent
• Willing to commit to NC Building Services course and a minimum 8 hours work in own time
Please note the below are expectations of the areas within the business you will assist with, you will not be expected to take responsibility to perform these tasks unaided or unsupervised during your apprenticeship programme.
Guest Rooms – plunging toilets, unclogging drains, repairing all types of hardware, plumbing, electrical equipment including lamps, air conditioners and cosmetic items
Public Areas – plunging toilets, unclogging drains, repairing all types of hardware, plumbing and electrical equipment and cosmetic items.
Departmental Duties – to clean all engineering areas as directed by Engineering Management. To work in a neat and efficient manner, keeping work areas clean and well organized. To serve as otherwise directed or needed to help maintain the effective and efficient operation of the hotel. This assignment shall be at the discretion of Engineering Management or the hotel General Manager.
General – Complete all work assigned in a safe and professional manner. Maintain communications with supervisors to ensure that all needed materials, tools and supplies are available or on order. Follow up on any items that may be on back order. Keep supervisor updated on assignments. Provide training and technical advice to other engineers as needed or requested.
