Pathways to the Professions – UKCAT Workshop

As you will be aware, any student wishing to apply for Medicine to start in 2015 must sit the UKCAT, before the deadline of 3rd Oct 2014. Pathways to the Professions (a project supporting state school students from Edinburgh and the Lothians who are interested in applying for Medicine) will be running two workshops looking at the skills needed for the UKCAT. These will take place here at the University of Edinburgh on Friday 20th June and Friday 4th July (in the afternoon) – each session will be identical, so students only come to one.

Any pupil from your school (LEAPS or non-LEAPS) who is already registered with Pathways for Medicine has been emailed with information about the workshops, and has been asked to sign up via Pathways. However, I would like to take the opportunity to remind you that if you have any new S6 pupils who are thinking of applying for Medicine who are NOT yet enrolled on Pathways, they should do this as soon as possible – this can be done online here:
www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/student-recruitment/widening-participation/projects/pathways-professions/registration/online-registration or here
It’s really important that they sign up, so that they can take advantage of the UKCAT workshop – and other ones to come after the summer (eg personal statement workshop – date tbc) – as well as the one-to-one advice and guidance that Pathways provides.

Also, as I’m sure you know, Pathways does not have a strand for Dentistry. However, all prospective dentistry students also have to sit the UKCAT and we are willing to open the workshops (space permitting…) to any potential dentistry student from your school who would like to take part. If you have any students in this position, they need to phone me directly to request a place at either of the workshops: they can call me on 0131 651 1755. I’d be grateful if you can pass this on to any interested student.

As always, if you have any queries regarding Pathways, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes

Lesley
