The Scottish College for Educational Leadership Teacher Leadership Programme supports and challenges teachers to become more confident in leading classroom practice in their contexts and develop against the GTCS Standard for Career-Long Professional Learning.
Who is the programme for?
The programme is open to all post-probation classroom teachers in Scotland. The programme is free of charge and is primarily aimed at teachers who are seeking professional learning opportunities to develop their leadership of learning and teaching in their contexts.
How is the programme delivered?
The programme is primarily delivered online through Glow and participants are regularly supported and challenged by a regional group of their peers as well as a critical friend and a programme tutor. Regular online tutorials are provided to support participants’ professional learning.
The programme also includes one national and one regional event which allow participants to learn and share in person.
What does the programme involve?
A central feature of the programme is enquiring into an aspect of the participants’ classroom practice to develop an aspect of learning and teaching as appropriate for the learners in their contexts.
Participants will be supported to explore teacher leadership, reflect on current practice and consider the nature and purpose of enquiry. They will then plan and implement an enquiring approach to developing their classroom practice.
Throughout the programme, teachers will engage with literature and reflect on the learning arising in terms of their own leadership as well as for their learners.
The regional and national events provide an opportunity for the participants to network, share their learning and learn from the enquiring approaches taken by other programme participants.
